“I was very happy when the indoor park opened, to finally have a local park to skate. I got involved with the mentoring program at the indoor park. Being a dad with two small kids, I enjoy skating with the younger kids and helping them with their first exposure to skateboarding. Through mentoring, I hope to help provide a fun, positive environment where people of any age can skate and have a good time.”
- Nathan Scheck

Occuption: Former Snowboard Instructor at Wintergreen Ski Resort
“I see the mentoring programs as an opportunity to enhance local skate culture by raising interest through learning among people of all ages. While I enjoy skating both for relaxation and for the challenge it offers, I also enjoy the process of teaching and instructing others so that they may enjoy the same activities.”

“I believe in the mentoring program at the skatepark. This gives us a chance to teach the young skaters the basics when starting out. We get a chance to work with the kids one on one and to take the time to walk them through the beginning steps that lead up to the more advanced tricks. It’s a good feeling to see the look on someone’s face when they land a trick for the first time.”
- Jared Denaro/ In-line Instructor
Age: 22
Years Skating: 7
Occupation: Gallery Staff at Amazement Square
“I love seeing the progression that the younger skaters go through. It’s very rewarding to come back to a park after a year or so and find that the kid you were teaching to drop in last summer is now airing 3-4 ft over the coping.”
